Morning in Ortygia

east coast of Ortigia Island, Sicily

Ortygia

Sicily 2015  Early morning light gilds medieval Ortygia.

At first the island seemed large and confusing to us, but soon we learned some street names like Capodieci that cut across the island and deposited us at Fonte Artusa, a few steps from our apartment. We could reach the eastern side of the island in a few minutes where, if we got up early enough, we could watch the fishermen gather mussels from the rocks.
