Palmyra: Still Standing

ancient city of Palmyra, Syria

Monumental Arch

Palmyria, Syria 2010

Palmyra was an important trading center since before the birth of Christ. Ancient texts dating from 44 B.C. tell of magnificent buildings on the site. The many columns, arches, theaters and temples still standing give an idea of how impressive the city was during its heyday.

There is a 16th century fortress on a hill overlooking Palmyra. From there you can get a panoramic shot of the ruins. To see the pano click here: http://www.rosemarysheel.com/archives/palmyra
