Ponte Vecchio

digital painting of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence Italy

Ponte Vecchio

Florence, Italy 2015

The light was perfect when I shot this scene, but somehow the colors of my photo were wrong, wrong, wrong. Looking at my RAW file, I see a blue haze that I didn’t notice when I was in Florence. No matter how many times I tried I couldn’t get rid of the dull, gray wash that flowed over the scene. I wanted my buildings to look like Florence, but not the real Florence. I wanted the Florence of my imagination. And by using plug-ins such as Alien Skin Exposure X and Topaz Impression, I got the Florence I wanted.

If you don’t want a digital painting and don’t have plug-ins, no problem. Just change your white balance in Camera RAW…do this first and you’ll get your colors right or almost right. Then a few adjustments and you’re there.
