Portrait of a Hamar Man

portrait of a Hamar tribesman in the Ethiopian bush

Wary

Ethiopia, 2013

We came across him, his womenfolk and children in the bush. He was a small man but wiry and muscular. It took him about ten minutes to decide that he didn’t like us all that much. We had enticed his wives and daughters to pose for us. They forgot about the cattle they were herding for him. Maybe they even ignored his requests to get back to work. I know we got the message when he had had enough. His eyes here tell the story.
