Rabari Mother with Children

Danta, a small settlement in Gujarat, India 2009

A young Rabari matron is proud to pose with her daughters. They are beautiful, healthy and well-dressed. She has a right to be proud.

Although it may look as though she wears her “Sunday best” clothing, she doesn’t. She wears these garments every day as well as the multiple lac bracelets that encase her upper arms. She began to wear these as a bride and will never spend a day without them.
