Rice Terraces of Long-ji

Long-Ji China 2005

Our hotel window overlooked these rice terraces. Keren Su, our tour leader, arranged for this woman to simulate harvesting rice. Those rows of yellow are rice stalks that have been cut and are now drying in preparation for threshing.

Getting the colors right on this image was difficult for me because a bluish mist was rising over the hills shrouding the brilliant yellows and greens of the terraces.  Of course, I didn’t notice at the time. My mind was focused on the woman in her red smock and the swirling rows of rice.

I used Image>Adjustments>Replace Color to try to get the colors the way my mind remembered them. I like Replace Color because you can change the hue, saturation and lightness of the color and you can choose just where you want the color changes using the fuzziness slider. I think I have more control with this tool than simply using Image>Adjustment>Color Balance. But try that one as well.
