Riding past Demons

Entrance to Angkor Thom

Siem Riep, Cambodia 2011

Most of the time this road is packed with western tourists and it’s easy to give up on getting a shot of a long row of the statues. I didn’t succeed the first time I visited Angkor Thom, but I got lucky the second time.

The bicycle rider pedaling past the statues lining the entrance to Angkor Thom adds life and information to my photo.  Her clothing and her large basket say “Asia”.  By comparing her to the statues, you know how large they are.

I could have cropped the shot to give a panorama effect. That would emphasize the line of statues with the woman adding that spark we all look for. I like the dense appearance of the forest and I didn’t think about cropping until I began to write. Perhaps you can think of other ways to make this photo better. I might have zoomed in to get a shot of the woman’s head and a demon’s head. That might work. I didn’t think of it then. But maybe next time I see a similar situation, I will.
