Soft Focus Portrait

Burma: Long-necked girl of Padaung tribe

Padaung Girl

Inle Lake, Burma 2011

I happened upon a photographer (on the net) who used soft focus rather than sharp focus on his portraits. Actually, his work was almost all soft focus. I liked it. Soft lends a dreamy quality to the image. I think soft works on this young woman.

You can achieve soft focus in your camera (as I often do when soft focus is the last thing I want!) or you can get it by going to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and adding as much blur as you want. Or if you have plug-ins, you can go to your glamour glow filter.
