Urgut Market

Uzbekistan 2012: Urgut Market

An Uzbek grandma, holding a suzani, runs toward my friend, Torie.  Torie was the center of attention in the market that day. The vendors sensed that she was a serious buyer.

A suzani is an embroidered coverlet typical of Uzbekistan. Urgut Market, outside of Samarkand is a treasure trove of antique suzanis.

If you, too, are a collector of old embroideries and want to add an authentic suzani from Urgut, contact Penelope at www.uzbekjourneys.com
