Thinking Graphics

qutub minaret in Delhi India

Qutub Minaret as Graphic

India 2009

I forget what we did that first morning in Delhi but after lunch we walked over to the Qutub Minaret. And there it was, right in the middle of the park with the mid-day Indian sun blasting down on it. How to get a good shot? Shoot from here, shoot from there, shoot with an overhang framing it, shoot with trees. Oh, I want out of here!!

I didn’t delete my shots as much as I disliked them and as much as they make me cringe when I see them even now, after 5 years have passed. Yesterday, as I was browsing through this day’s shots, I noticed this one. It reminds me of my shot of the Burana Tower in Kyrgyzstan shot 3 years later. Apparently, the Qutub was my prototype. It takes me a while!

The moral of my story, Dear Reader, is this. Think ‘graphic’ when you are confronted with a tower.

And you can think ‘graphic’ when you have lots of lines going every which way. It makes for variety and variety is good.
