a Tibetan woman shields her face from the sun

Tibetan Woman in Red

Yushou, China 2007

A Khampa woman shields her face with her cape. The sun is harsh at high elevations. It  damages the skin of men, women and children. Wide brimmed hats are common in Tibet and in Peru. Heads are draped and faces hidden in desert lands whether they are in the Himalayas or the middle east.

The shadow on this woman’s face cast a strong red color. I removed it by going to  Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and desaturating the red color. Then I clicked on the mask, inverted it and using the brush tool removed the red from only her face.

Still unsatisfied, I used Topaz Impressions to get a textured look and then used Alien Skin’s Exposure 7 to bring down the highlights and return it to the look of an old photo.
