Tom Sawyer of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan one room school house with schoolboy sitting on fence

The Schoolboy

Kazakhstan 2016

I noticed the school as we drove to the home where we were to eat lunch. As the others sat down to eat, I ran back to get a shot of the schoolhouse that reminded me of my childhood in South Carolina.

To my delight, this boy was sitting on the steps under the portico. (In another shot I can see several pairs of shoes, belonging to other students, lined up on the step where he was sitting.) I have decided that he was most likely a mischief-maker and had been sent outside by his teacher.

The boy was happy to have me provide him some amusement and quickly followed my mimed instructions. He posed on the steps, behind the fence and as you see here, climbing over the fence. He was the Tom Sawyer of Kazakhstan.
