Sheep Transport

Himachal  Pradash, Northern India 2006

As we descended from the Himalayas of Jammu Kashmir in late September, we crossed into Himachal Pradesh.  Shepherds drove their flocks down from the high meadows. The lambs, who had been born during the summer, couldn’t make the arduous trek and were packed into the pouches of a saddlebag designed just for this purpose. They seemed to be enjoying the ride.

Transhumance: A great word I’d never heard of. You continue to educate me. Don’t stop. Jerry

I’ll try to keep you on your toes, Jerry, but unless you are chatting with an anthropologist, you will never work ‘transhumance’ into the conversation!
