Stones in the Desert

Kazakhstan 2016

The locals said these stones were where Genghis Khan stopped to camp. I got the idea that his men set up a giant wok on these rocks and cooked something delicious. But Genghis didn’t take time for such fripperies, his men drank horse milk and if they ate meat, it was probably dried or raw.

Most likely this was set up by an ancient Turkic tribe as a meeting place. I mean, look at this area…empty as far as the eye can see. You’d need a marker to show you’d arrived at your destination. Having been lost in the Sahara Desert, I can testify that a marker is a good thing.

The land was dun colored…the same brown-red color as our deserts in New Mexico, Arizona and California. I gave it a blue tint in Photoshop. Not only does it make my photo different but it gives it a moon-scape look.
