Arcade in Hammadiya Souk

Damascus, Syria 2010

A beautiful iron roof arches over the main thoroughfare of the Hamadiya souk. Shops and shoppers fill the first floor with more shops on the second floor. I didn’t walk up to the second floor, but I almost did when I saw the Bedouin dresses hanging in one shop window. I used to buy clothing like that. And I wore it. Now, I have the feeling that I need to dress more conservatively. I’m thinking Miss Marple.
