Istanbul

Skyline of Istanbul shot from Sultanahmet

Istanbul

Istanbul Skyline 1970’s or 1980’s…

The old, narrow street wound to the crest of a hill and I was rewarded with this view of the Galata Bridge and the beautiful skyline of Istanbul. The reds and blues of the photo are exaggerated not out of preference but sometimes when you are scanning an old slide, you take what you can get. The colors do lend a dated feel…retro, my favorite.

Istanbul: women in chador enjoy the view of Taksim from across the Bosphorus

By the Sea

This shot, though it looks old, isn’t. I shot this in 2008.  We were at the water’s edge with the rest of Istanbul. These women climbing on the rail to catch the breeze off the water seemed like a good subject for a photo. I had to be stealthy. I’m not fond of being scolded in public by bystanders. I like the “idea” of the shot, but there was something lacking when I worked on it in color. A retro black and white says “this is the way it was” with finality.
