Kazakh Eagle Hunters

The Hunters

Western Mongolia 2014

The women in our group liked the face of the man in the foreground. He had wide, high cheekbones and a strong jaw. Just the sort of face that nature tells women to look for. He noticed that we preferred him and it made him shy so he pretended we weren’t there. Who can blame him for feeling uneasy with strange women following his every move with their camera?

I saw that he was particularly attentive to the oldest hunter and after looking at the older man’s face through my lens, I realized that the younger man was his son. When his father dismounted or mounted his horse, he was there to lend a steadying hand.  Another desirable quality!
