Long-Necked Women of Burma

Burma: Padaung women weave in their shop on Inle Lake

Padaung Women Weaving

Inle Lake Burma 2011

Finally, I found a photo of these Padaung women that I like.

The shop, owned by Padaung women, floats on one of the outlets of Lake Inle.  We visited the shop twice. Still, I didn’t get the shot I wanted. You’d think it would be easy to get an interesting shot of a woman wearing a stack of brass rings on her neck. I won’t go into detail. But apparently it wasn’t that easy for me.

Yesterday I spotted this photo among my files. After the passage of years, I’ve decided that I like this photo. The light on the brass rings emphasizes the length of her neck. I like the shadow on her face and the way she must look down at her task due to her immobilized neck. I like the diagonal line of the fabric on her loom.  It makes me happy to look at this photo! That’s all I ask of my photos.
