Syria: Man in red-checked keffiya herds camels down a highway

The Road to Damascus

Syrian Desert 2010

An unhappy Syrian man herds his camels down the highway. They had been in a herd grazing peacefully until we piled out of our tour bus and scared them. It was obvious the man was angry. (That will inhibit your photographic viewpoint like nothing else.) I so wanted a shot of him and the herd. NOT!

He didn’t stop jabbering into his cell phone, though. It gets lonely out there in the desert and apparently the conversation was too important to interrupt.
