Stealth Shot: use of wide angle shot in Uzbek market

Wide Angle View

Uzbek Market 2012

I first learned this market shot technique in a book written by Lisl Dennis. She demonstrated with a photo of some Andean Indians standing by their table with goods to sell. The two were unaware that Lisl had included them in the shot because she aimed her lens at the merchandise.

You’ll need a 24 mm lens or wider to get everything you want in your photo. You can see that I’ve put a lens for a cropped sensor on my full sensor camera without changing the parameters. That results in the black vignette.  Don’t do that unless you like the results. I did. It gives my photo a “telescope” feel.  I aimed for the bread but got a full body portrait of the customer and baker checking the calculator.

The women of Uzbekistan fill up their little baby-buggy carts with bread and trundle them to market. They sit in a long row right by the front gate to be handy for customers dashing in to pick up a loaf of bread for that evening’s meal. You don’t need an MBA to be a good business woman.

I recommend: www.uzbekjourneys.com  Central Asia is their specialty.
