The Rabari Prince

The Little Prince

Gujarat, India 2009

He wasn’t a prince even though he is dressed like one. He is a Rabari, a nomad tribe of northwest India. Apparently, his family were doing well as they owned a home where, it seemed, grandparents, aunts and uncles plus all sorts of cousins and brothers and sisters lived, plus a few goats who wandered around the courtyard bleeting and nudging hoping to be picked up and petted.

One way to tell a Rabari man or boy is to look at their earrings. This boy has large coin- shaped earrings in the middle of his ear. Those are typical.
